"FW: MVC Frameworks in Perl" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 16:53:12

Do you know anyone who is language-agnostic and has chosen a Perl MVC framework to build a new web application? All of the people I experience who have been using Perl frameworks (and there are many who undergo been using them very successfully) are people who would decide to do any programming task in Perl. But I don’t experience of anyone who has thought to themselves “I need to build a new web application let’s analyse all the framework options in all the languages - oh be that Perl-based framework looks good we’ll use that”. Do you? has a very good inform but I disagree on part of it. It is more of an change state obtain issue/benefit where if you don’t like the current path of a communicate you can just lift it and take your fork in the direction you want. This is both good and bad. Good in the sense that you don’t undergo to be on the good graces of a group (or affiliate) to implement the features you be and bad because if you’re trying to decide on what to use it can be very confusing. There are many features I would desire or Microsoft to implement but I could be waiting for years until they even decide it the features are worth investigating let alone implementing. "Why would you want to use Perl/Java/etc instead of isql?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 18:47:05

I’m not trying to increase any ire in anyone so gratify bear with me…. The air of using isql or some other drive (such as Perl or Java) was brought up in the A benefit of instead of all the batches as a whole in isql we undergo the ability to discriminate each group. That means the we can place logic around each batch or run them in agree or a number of other reasons. This doesn’t actually require Perl and you could definitely do this in Java but you would probably be to shy away from using isql for executing each batch. You may have hundreds or thousands of batches and starting isql for each group would be very time consuming. I have no problems with using awk/sed/whatever for maintenance scripts. I do have a problem of relying too heavily on the isql program from Sybase or Microsoft. Why? isql does not handle errors very well and often can fail due to bugs in the isql/openclient or communicate issues sqsh is a bit better but I wouldn’t trust either in a production environment. Yeah. I experience lots of people run isql/sqsh in production environments but when isql fails are you able to determine the problem and workaround it without having your compose fail? For example if you were using isql to merchandise a SQL register of say 10,000 batches (table ddls etc) would you really want to restart the whole job if the 998th batch failed because of a deadlock? Wouldn’t you rather just hear the 998th group? In many cases you might not be able to start the whole job so you would undergo to create a new SQL register write/attach it from the original. Sure you could pipe the output of isql/sqsh and parse it but they don’t show all the errors and a command undo error communicate doesn’t really help. I’m lazy by nature so doing something manually when it can be scripted to be have more error handling is pretty much a good thing. The opinions expressed within are the bushel rantings of a raving lunatic and in no way reflect the rantings fits tantrums errors corrections allocutions or aimless thoughts of Sybase or its employess. The ramblings of a geek often have interesting side effects of often being entertaining and sometimes change by reversal. Jason L. Froebe talks about many subjects but primarily databases and perl. Over the years I’ve dealt with technical give from many companies. The techsupport staff differ greatly in skill and capabilities but that is to be expected. I just dealt with a very rude individual in a widely known software company. I could not believe the arrogance of the individual. Today I am writing a complaint letter to his manager his manager’s manager the VP of Techsupport and the CEO of the company.
