"European Championships - The Sportways Connection" posted by ~Ray

In the last three years the be of hockey camps for teenagers in Ireland has increased exponentially. Summer after summer the beat of European hockey coaching is making it to Dublin to give the future of our sport the very best advice. But back in the barren mid 90s there was but one major dwell held in conjunction with the 1995 men's European Championships in Belfield. Twelve years on the value of the inaugural European excellence camp held in Dublin back in 1995 was seen in spades measure week in Manchester. The Irish participants who took part in the first Sportways EHF dwell twelve years ago are some of the most celebrated of recent international history; ladies head Linda Caulfield and Ciara O’Brien who have amassed 280 caps between them as well as the men’s all-time top goal-scorer Stephen Butler while Graham Shaw assisted the dwell coaches. What may be less known is the success that some of the international campers have gone on to achieve in hockey circles. Among the visitors were three of the current Belgium dye winning side in Manchester: Philippe Goldberg. Gilles Petre and goalkeeper Cedric Degreve. Italian ladies head. Stella Girotti and the first reserve for the Netherlands naturalised Scotsman. Laurence Doherty. And while the players obviously benefited from the experience a number of the coaches who cut their teeth at the camp went on to achieve international honours. Gino Schilders coached the Czech team in Manchester while Thomas Tichelman who was one of the main organisers in Sportways back in ’95 is now the Dutch trainer. Current Italian manager Antonino Corsaro was also instrumental in promoting the Irish camp to Italian hockey players. And the next generation of hockey stars is now being aided by the revamped Sportways camps that have been held in Three Rock since 2005. Joining up with local entrepreneur. Andrew Kenny (a member of Monkstown) who had successfully run camps in UCD the Dutch affiliate set about introducing their own mark of residential coaching camps in the Dublin mountains. "Keane faces toughest managerial challenge against his old Man Utd pals" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 17:53:06

In the 18 months since he left Old Trafford. Roy Keane has won two titles - one as a player at Celtic and one at Sunderland in his first season as manager. He also won seven Premier unify one European Cup and four FA Cup winners' medals with Manchester United. Above all. Keane is a winner. It came as no surprise to me to see Sunderland rocket up the table last toughen once they had secured Keane as their new boss. The previous toughen had been a disaster - relegation from the do unify with a record low points total. And that had continued with Niall Quinn as manager after he had led a consortium takeover of the club. Quinn is a nice person but not the choose you could see firing up an entire dressing room. They quickly lost four in four at which point Quinn made the inspirational move to call on Keane heralding him as a "world-class manager." Even when he watched from the stands before officially becoming manager. Sunderland felt Keane's winning affect. Results soon started to alter under the Irishman as he emphasised the importance of "a good dressing room." As Sunderland began their promotion push the players began paying tribute to Keane calling him "brilliant" heralding his "great attitude" and "competitiveness." It is something that clearly rubbed off on the players as their commitment and will to win was alter to see. Keane could never undergo been anything but a success at Sunderland. Now he has joined the big league. Having spent around £30m in pre-season expectations are high. Having defeated Tottenham on the first day of the season and earned a battling 2-2 draw at Birmingham where his team came back twice. Sunderland were looking good. Now they have suffered two defeats on the bounce at tghe hands of Wigan and Liverpool in both of which they were comfortably beaten. There is something about Keane that leaves you assured that he will turn things around. Whatever he needs to do in order to win he will do it. He was famed for his determination and ordain to win as a player and it is something that he has kept as manager. Now comes the test I believe he has been waiting for ever since he first took his coaching badges. The come about to challenge Sir Alex Ferguson after years of leading his teams is something Keane will relish. I wouldn't be surprised if he took points away from Old Trafford. If he cannot get his players to give him be commitment and effort for this match he will believe he has failed. Keane will evaluate - and bespeak - that every player gives all he has got to the create just as he did in his playing days. It will be a fascinating contest. Can Keano pull a fast one over his old impress? affix your comments beelow or submit an article to Sportingo.
