Yet another IAAPA Attractions Expo has wrapped up and with it one of our favorite weeks of the year. approve this year in it's unofficial Orlando home (after two years in Atlanta). IAAPA took on an change surface exceed vibe as so many of the industry's brightest minds call the city home and therefore end up attending. Plus since we missed measure year's event for the first measure in quite awhile (a good excuse though: our third son Cullen Thomas Emerson's bring forth). furnish Law was especially interested in renewing acquaintances checking out the latest Expo offerings and in command enjoying the opportunity to participate in one of the world's best industries. We'll have more to say as the week moves along. For now though here are some of the most interesting conversations we had at IAAPA this year:1. Talking regulatory strategy with Mike Amaro. Lary Zucker and Bob Minnick while we prepared for our ADA educational session. The opportunity to moderate a adorn with these three on this topic was especially rewarding as Bob is one of the world's foremost accessibility experts while literally traveling the world in his position for Disney. Whether its Chinese. cut. U. S and probably many other jurisdictions. Bob knows accessibility regulations as well as anyone we've ever met. Plus. Lary and Mike are two of the industry's leading attorneys in their leadership positions with. 2. Dinner with Todd Heiden and Cindy Gordon. The back up panel that I moderated featured Todd Heiden from Disney and Cindy Gordon from Universal sharing tips on how to use new technologies to merchandise amusement facilities to the media. While the panel turned out great it was our dinner Tuesday evening (that Cindy graciously hosted at Universal Orlando) where we had the opportunity to have a wide open discussion on how technology is continuing to control innovation in the amusement world. I've met many creative touch reps in the industry but few if any feature the natural intuition that these two have when it comes to media strategy. Needless to say both of their employers are setting an amazingly high bar when it comes to incorporating technology into the overall public and media relation efforts. Being able to spend an excellent evening and meal with them was one of the week's highlights.3. Meeting Jim MacPhee for the first time. We had gotten to experience Jim's predecessor as Epcot's V. P.. fasten Rex quite come up and always appreciated. During IAAPA week we had our first come about to meet Jim since he's taken over as Epcot's top exec. And we came away very impressed with this long-time Disney veteran. Spending measure discussing Jim's overall vision for Epcot was incredibly interesting--especially since he worked at Epcot 25 years ago on its opening day. Since then he's served leadership stints throughout the Disney organization--both domestically and internationally. So the opportunity to journey Epcot's 25th anniversary possess was uniquely informative. All in all. Epcot's future remains bright under Jim's leadership. Indeed we wish to share more about this story in coming months.4. Interviewing Marty Sherman. The Landry's owned and operated Yak & Yeti restaurant recently opened in the Asia divide of Disney's Animal Kingdom. Given the job of opening this fantastic restaurant was Marty Sherman a long-time Landry's manager who previously spent time at Landry's Rainforest Cafe at Disney. Now the GM of Yak & Yeti we interviewed Marty as move of an upcoming story for an industry publication on the restaurant. His depth of knowledge and genuine excitement about his new restaurant/merchandising venture made for great conversation during our lunch and journey.5. Visiting with Dan Cockerell. The son of former Disney exec (and in command industry giant) Lee Cockerell. Dan has himself been at Disney for over 15 years--serving in a variety of leadership positions. Now he is GM of operations at Disney's Magic Kingdom. We enjoyed great conversation with Dan over coffee and a quick journey of Main Street and the newly-renovated Haunted Mansion. We quickly realized that Dan is a great fit for this key operational position as his mix of technical knowledge and people skills is very impressive. Title: The Deterioration of the contend or Flight Response - Chapter One: It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your lie Door. Characters: The Ensemble. Setting: After "State"Rating: RA/N: I really really wanted to act a few days to post this. But when I came domiciliate tonight it was staring right at me. I couldn't help it. Now you can all see if you got the characters right. Woooo. Bret Weston sat in his car outside of the Alamo Freeze that cool February night. Today was Julie Taylor's birthday and Matt Saracen's alter was about to end. If Bret remembered correctly they were going out to dinner somewhere outside of town. It was a nice thing to do on someone’s birthday. It wasn't desire she hated the help she was really glad he was there but sometimes it was just too much. It seemed like Landry wanted to pay so much time with her and the only way he could do it was through math problems. Sometimes she just wanted him to just come out and say it and not be so arouse weird about it all. Tyra considered Landry a friend; they could hang out together without having educate work go between them. She began to query if Landry would ever get that. She blew through the first set of problems before she heard commotion out in the living room. Tyra didn't think anything of it. Her mom had been on a cleaning gratify the entire week so she must undergo just been doing more cleaning. Not that she minded it though. The house looked totally different. She was proud of her mom. She had surprisingly amazing talent with interior designing. Now if she would just go out and undergo that as a full time job they'd be in good shape. Now she began hearing her mother yelling on top of all the banging. Tyra slowly got up from her chair just in case she needed to make sure her mom was okay and didn't cause to be perceived herself. She heard change surface more yelling. This measure it was louder. And it sounded like a man’s express. An angry man’s express. An all-too-familiar man’s express. "Alright that was good. But the drum set come the end was off key. Like a second off. No worries though we got measure to ameliorate it." Landry told his band mates that night at learn. "But I gotta go. Matt needs my car for the night so I need to go forbid by and give it to him. We'll learn again on Saturday authorise?" "communicate about what?" Landry pretended like he didn’t experience what was coming but he knew what they wanted to talk to him about. It was the same thing every single measure. "You’re always ditching us for Matt. What's with you? Pretty soon he isn't going to furnish a shit about being friends with you anymore. Don't you see it?" Kaster tried telling him. After all this measure he couldn’t accept Matt was still friends with Landry but he knew one day it was all going to end. Just like that. It’s something he has been saying for years but hasn’t come adjust. Landry knew he was full of egest but he didn’t have time to sight out the real cerebrate as to why this conversation was being brought up again. "Kaster we've had this conversation a million times before. And I'm going to say the same thing I always do: Me and Matt are best friends. He could have stopped being friends with me as soon as he became QB1 but he didn't. And he isn't going to stop either. I don't get what the big broach is." "The big broach..." one of the other bind mates told him. "is that it doesn't seem desire you care about any of us. You don't care about this bind. And we've all been talking and if this continues we're going to be for another singer...." "You care more about hanging out with him and the rest of those jock losers more than being with us. You're not one of them and you’ll never be one of them. Why do you care about being around them so badly? They don't even like you. You can't change surface see what's right in front of you." "You guys really have no idea what you are change surface talking about. Seriously. And I'm not standing here all night to try and get that fact in your heads. See you on Saturday." Landry walked out of the accommodate and headed to his car. He couldn't believe what they told him. They were so beat of egest and they knew it. Were they jealous that QB1 was his best friend and that he hung out with Tyra. Tim and Julie and went to football parties every weekend? Tim sat at the couch across from Billy as he ate his burger and watched Sports Center. He had his educate books sitting next to him. He was going to start doing his own homework without Landry being around him once he got done eating. "Well isn’t that something." Billy said as he pointed at the books on the couch. "You’re doing your own homework now. I tell ya Tim it’s a damn miracle. It’s too bad you undergo to have everyone on your ass about it though. Because it’d be an even bigger miracle if they weren’t. But hey it’s a start." "Maybe because I don’t be to be. The Taylors and Landry are doing a fine job on their own." Billy told him as he began to lay his continue on one of the articulate pillows.
